Beyond the Crowd: Designing IoT Sparks for Real-World Impact
When we launched IoT Sparks, our vision was to build an event that directly serves the people building, deploying, and adopting connected technologies in the real world. Reflecting on our growth over the past three years, I am genuinely proud of what our team at LORIOT, together with our incredible partners and sponsors, has built. What started as an ambitious idea has quickly grown into a key date on the European tech calendar, and we are only getting started.
For us, the measure of success has never been about packing a venue or chasing sheer headcount. The true success of an event doesn't depend on the number of attendees, but on the tangible impact it generates. We would rather facilitate thirty high-value, transformative conversations than fill a room with hundreds of passive listeners. This philosophy shapes every decision we make.

Since day one, IoT Sparks has stood on three fundamental pillars to drive that real impact:
- Inspiration & Learning
- Networking & People Connections
- Experience
Following last month’s announcement of our new Workshop Day on October 6th (the day before our main conference and exhibition), I wanted to share the strategic "why" behind this evolution and how it directly strengthens those core pillars, turning IoT Sparks into a full 2-day experience focused entirely on driving results.
The Strategy: From High-Level Insights to Actionable Tools
Main-stage keynotes and panel discussions are invaluable. They offer high-level perspectives, highlight industry trends, and showcase real successes (and failures). They spark conversations that lead to new partnerships, business deals, and collaborative opportunities.
However, a practical workshop serves a distinct, critical purpose: it gives attendees actionable know-how and real tools.
For Adopter companies, organisations looking to implement or scale IoT and AI within their operations, this addition is a game-changer. IoT Sparks is no longer just a place to network or evaluate vendors; it is now a dedicated, practical learning hub. Instead of taking high-level notes on what other companies have done, Adopters get field-tested blueprints, governance frameworks, and technical insights they can bring back to their teams and execute immediately.
To ensure these sessions deliver true depth rather than surface-level overviews, we made the deliberate decision to cap capacity at 30 trainees per workshop. While access to the workshops is included in the IoT Sparks Full Pass, the strict 30-seat limit per session ensures an interactive environment where attendees get direct access to facilitators.
Deep Expertise: IBM and LORIOT
To deliver this level of practical value, we brought together unmatched expertise across both AI and IoT tracks.
1. Applied Artificial Intelligence - Led by IBM
When it comes to deploying and orchestrating enterprise AI in a structured, governed way, IBM is on the front line. As clear market leaders with extensive experience in real-world business cases, they are uniquely positioned to lead our AI track.
When I invited IBM to collaborate on this track, their enthusiastic acceptance affirmed our shared mission: driving real, scalable AI and IoT adoption worldwide. In their 2.5-hour workshop, IBM’s experts will guide participants through agentic AI, governance frameworks, and live practical demonstrations.
2. Implementing IoT Solutions - Hosted by LORIOT & Ecosystem Partners
As host of the event and a team with more than a decade of hands-on experience in the global IoT landscape, LORIOT is leading the IoT track. Over the years, we’ve learned what makes projects succeed at scale, and, just as importantly, the hidden pitfalls that cause them to stall.
In this session, alongside key industry partners, we are providing a 360-degree perspective on real-world deployments. We will cover everything from radio mapping and field reliability to Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and long-term infrastructure management.

The topics for both workshops were chosen with explicit intent, and the agendas were crafted with meticulous care. Whether an organization is an Adopter navigating an initial rollout or an Enabler scaling infrastructure across global enterprises, companies arrive at IoT Sparks at vastly different stages of their digital transformation journeys. These programs were structured specifically to deliver concrete value across those varying levels of maturity, ultimately bridging the gap between technology providers and the businesses putting solutions to work.

Connecting the Dots: Learning Meets Experience (and Networking)
In line with our pillars of Experience and Connections, learning doesn't end when the workshops finish. October 6th continues with two dedicated networking activities:
- Guided City Tour (18:30 - 19:30): A relaxing walk through Valencia’s iconic Turia Gardens to help decompress and start conversations.
- IoT Drink & Aperitif (19:30 - 21:30): An informal evening welcome drink at Contrapunto, bringing together attendees, speakers, and sponsors before the main conference day kicks off.

Looking Ahead
Adding dedicated workshops marks a major milestone for IoT Sparks. It bridges the gap between inspiring ideas and real-world execution, offering both IoT providers and adopters the exact tools they need to level up. I see the Workshop Day as a catalyst, a multiplier for what will happen the next day during the main conference day, and we might consider expanding the program in the future based on this year's response.
My sincere thanks go to the entire LORIOT team (and my marketing team especially), IBM, and all our partners who share this vision. I look forward to seeing many of you in Valencia for two days of learning, connection, and momentum.
